The Michigan Workers’ Disability Compensation Act defines the requirements for Michigan employers to maintain workers’ compensation insurance. This insurance provides employees injured on the job with appropriate medical care, rehabilitation, and/or disability benefits. The law requires that every employer subject to the Act assure that it can pay benefits to its workers should they become injured–by purchasing a workers’ compensation policy from an insurance company, by becoming authorized by the State to self-insure, or by becoming a member of a self-insured fund.
